Travel: Santiago, Chile ~ Mercado Central

Finally! The beginning of my travel series for Santiago, Chile has begun. For my first post on Santiago, I wanted to post on one of the most well-known tourist destinations in the area, The Mercado Central!!!

A little bit about the market… Mercado Central is a large building in Santiago. The outside is a buttery yellow with beautiful arches and bustling with the days’ activity.  While the inside structure is made of wrought iron. The sculptures and the building itself are beautiful and a true masterpiece to behold. Past the architectural beauty, what the market is most well-known for is their fish! The perimeter of the building is surrounded by dozens and dozens of fish vendors and dozens of dozens of different types of fish and friendly fishmongers.

In the deep interior of the building, there are tons of little seafood restaurants to stop into! The waiters in the restaurants will try to coax you into their restaurants but a little tip is to look for the restaurant that is filled to the brim with locals -they know what is up 😉

A huge plus of going to the Mercado Central is its proximity to the Plaza de Armas in Santiago – but that is for another post! Soon to come 🙂

The Mercado Central is a perfect place to stop by before exploring the whole of Santiago. You get a taste of the locals, the culture and get to explore one of the most active places in all of Santiago, Chile!

Hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful!

Carpe Diem.
